Qualcomm claims Chinese iPhone ban after court win

iPhone 6

In a ruling about a dispute over licensing fees Qualcomm Inc has said it won a ruling again Apple Inc that subsequently bans the sale of several iPhone models,

The Chinese ban affects the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, and the iPhone X. It does not affect the recent models (XS, XR, XS Max.)

Apple said in a statement that it’s a desperate move by a company whose illegal practices are under investigation and that all those banned phones are still available despite the ban.

Two of the patents, according to Bloomberg, are related to resizing and reformatting the appearance of images and managing applications on a touchscreen.

Qualcomm is attempting to force Apple to pay up as they’ve stopped paying licensing fees.

Qualcomm currently charges a percentage of the selling price of each phone a manufacturer makes, regardless of whether the device is based on its chipset or not.

Ah patents…
