Lenovo drops a smart clock at CES with Google Assistant, but is it anything a Google Home Hub isn’t?

I’ve got a real love of the Lenovo Smart Displays with Google Assistant – basically these take a Google Home Hub and add in the ability to use DUO video chats.

I can call the grandparents, friends, family, and the whole thing actually doesn’t suck. Unfortunately with third party Google Assistant products, support and features come out when the manufacturer gets around to them.

So what’s different with the Lenovo Smart Clock with Google Assistant?

It’s got a 4″ screen, alarm clock, hardwired microphone cutoff switch, pass through USB for charging phones and the like. The Smart Clock doesn’t appear to have a camera built in, so you’re probably not going to have to worry about someone breaking in and watching you on it.

Overall it’s going to be released at about the same price as you can get a Home Hub these days (with deals and all) a smaller scream, and basically the same user experience but with a delay on updates.

Pretty neat, but the 4″ screen isn’t for me, and I can’t find anything in the PR about whether it will work as an alarm clock if the WiFi isn’t working, power goes out, etc. Maybe in the $30 range I’d get it, but right now it’s just neat not for me tech.
