If you’re an owner of Belkin WeMo home automation switches you might want to pay attention as there’s an IOT malware that may turn your smart plug into a cryptocurrency miner or your connected dimmer switch into a TOR relay node.

Other possibilities include being part of a DDoS attack, and of course a relay for a porn site of however personally abhorrent you can imagine.

The malware is called Bashlite, and it’s already in the wild, and if you somehow get infected with it there’s no telling what it’s done to other devices in your network as it functions as a relay.

You can read a good writeup of the thing here. Chances are it’ll be detectable and cleanable soon but, who knows. In the meantime hide your kids, hide your WiFi. The IoT takeover’s here.
