Pocketables

Look ma, no ads!

I’ve been trying to take Pocketables to ad-free and still getting paid back within 7 years and being able to pay the editors/authors/contributors for their time, but with a total of one person out of literally thousands that visits or read via RSS daily supporting us on Patreon that doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

It’s been an interesting year since becoming the owner of Pocketables. Learned more about SEO, wordpress, and have been focusing on too much rando stuff with hosting and trying to fix what keeps breaking to really delve into what I want to be working on which is not disabling plugin after plugin to figure out why the fonts changed.

I mean seriously, today I spent almost two hours trying to figure out with the site hosts what’s wrong with the site (two bad htaccess files,) rather than poking around and finding fun and interesting things in Androidville.

During all of this site work recently I was attempting to see if the video ad would perform well enough to get rid of the other ads and I hit a point where I realized most of the work I’ve done with pocketables for the past couple of months has been on the site itself, which I think is broken simply because it’s WordPress. (Seriously, issue after issue since the Gutenberg update)

Time to remove some stuff, minimize and just write.

So from April 19th until my birthday about a month out, I’m going to run this ad-free, as few gizmos and plugins that can fail as possible (seriously, deactivating anything that can fail and isn’t needed,) focus on the interesting, hope we can get some supporters, and if not reevaluate whether Pocketables takes sponsored posts, reviews, or what.

Gotta make beer money somehow.

In the meantime, something that took a lot of effort was to get the forums back up. We had several people requesting we resuscitate the pocketables forums, and once they were nobody used them. I mean, it is weird to drop in and say hi to nobody I guess. But man, you don’t know the mountains moved by Tapatalk to get the data.

And feel free to stop in and say hi in the comments of any article. Literally nearly 20,000 visits = 1 comment these days, and the comments we do get are usually on Facebook which doesn’t bother to notify me of comments on Pocketables posts most of the time. Rassafrassa.

Also feel free to mock sick Paul’s atrocious grammar as he’s sick and not enough oxygen is getting to his brain. And feel free to let us know how we can make some money without selling out. I feel not enough businesses and websites ask that before throwing in the towel.

Pocketables does not accept targeted advertising, phony guest posts, paid reviews, etc. Help us keep this way with support on Patreon!
