Screen protector evidently bypasses Galaxy S10 fingerprint security

Samsung Galaxy S10+

The Sun is reporting… hold on a second, those are words I never thought I’d say… ok, no seriously though The Sun is reporting that using a screen protector on the Galaxy S10 effectively lets anyone unlock the phone.

I very much doubt she registered the fingerprints and a cheap gel cover bypasses existing security. What this was probably caused by is that when you’re registering a fingerprint and you have the screen protector on it’s just not registering anything.

The screen protector was an aftermarket eBay purchase, and Samsung is evidently investigating. Might be worth it for you S10 owners to check and see if other people’s fingerprints, or even the wrong fingers, can unlock your phone with a screen protector on.

Other phones have ultrasonic fingerprint readers, I’m betting we’ll have some reports out of those channels shortly.
