New security threat discovered: sharks with frickin laser beams
Siri, Alexa, Google, and anything that uses a MEMS microphone (microelectromechanical systems) are evidently all vulnerable to a laser attack vector.

The issue is the microphones are so sensitive that they’ll even register laser light as an input, allowing say, a shark with a laser beam attached to its head to look in the window and send commands to unlock your front door and set the heat to 90.
So those of you who have your smart lock hooked up to your smart speaker… sleep tight.
I wonder if they could just put a film over the mics to block out light, or if we’re in for laser-blocking window treatments in the near future.
Right now it requires line of sight, so keeping your smart devices in the basement may protect you. Also setting a password or some such if it’s an option. Maybe not allowing access skills.
