Hey all, thought I’d give a little insight in case you saw the the site was running slowly today, well that’s entirely traffic… ok, I kid, you can stop laughing now.
What appears to have happened was a Jetpack upgrade didn’t play nicely with a PHP version we were running and slowed the site to a crawl. Watch me blame that and it turn out to be something else. At the moment we’ve got from every other click resulting in an error 500 after 40 seconds to about a 2 second page load time.
That’s for desktop… of course the mobile site on a site about mobile devices is running slewwwwww still… which appears to be because the cache plugin has decided to stop working and the simple looking fix for that might destroy the entire site. So I’m making sure we have a backup and attempting to punt that puppy tomorrow.
The fix is supposedly changing the permalink structure from http://pocketables.com/%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%.html to default, and then change it right back after loading a page. Somehow I have a feeling this will destroy everything ever and all badness will happen… so considering I’ve got classes to get my kiddos to in an hour we’re delaying.
