MOON UltraLight: properly light yourself for videos and selfies

The MOON UltraLight provides 400lux lighting for your front facing camera that allows you to properly illuminate self video, pictures, etc. As it’s a pinch-on, you can also point it in the other direction if you’re so inclined.

Besides simply being another light, you can control the color temperature that it emits from 2700-5000 kelvin (warm to cool,) so you can light yourself however you need without draining battery or having to lug along a lighting rig.

The MOON UltraLight is touch controlled, and here’s where I had a problem. You have to touch left and right to turn on/off, and it seems if I use one hand to do this quite often it was registering it as light-up / light down.

This isn’t particularly a huge problem because being rechargeable if it dies, I’ll recharge it, but turning it off only reliably works with two hands for me.

What does become somewhat of a problem is this thing has a lot of features and two points of contact that don’t seem to always want to work for me with one hand. So putting it in video mode (where it doesn’t shut off after three minutes,) takes a little work.

I figured out at about this in complaining point how to easily two-hand it. It also has a charging/touching indicator light you can use to make sure it’s registering your touch.

What is really cool about this is being able to adjust the color temperature while you’re watching to get things just right. When you get the hang of the device and get it set, it’s obviously useful.

That said, it’s more for your Tik Tok, selfie, and YouTube sans studio crowd than your mid-40’s tech reviewer.

Oh yeah, their box is actually extremely cool as you pull the item out from the bottom up top a card slides up. Really am going to try and film this at some point but my tripod is missing and anything I film trying to one-hand open the thing involves my feet. So yeah, no.

This seems to be the sort of product that I’d expect phones would be incorporating in the near future as at least right now, everyone in the world is using video chat and could stand to be properly lit.
