Nest dropping streaming quality during During Covid-19 bandwidth insanity

Citing a response to issues with hard bandwidth limitations for other services (probably referring to Zoom, Facetime, Netflix, YouPorn,) Google/Nest is adjusting your Nest camera’s bandwidth and quality in order to free up some of the backbone internet resources.

Hopefully this will be over soon because these Nest 4K cameras were only recording at 1080P to begin with and that’s useless if someone’s 15 feet away for identifying them.

You can change it back if you want, or you can set it to only turn your cameras on when you’re away, but the software is still pretty limited in scripting and you can’t do things like set it to low bandwidth during peak business hours and raise up at night. You can’t train it to lower bandwidth to absolutely nothing when there’s no movement. Whole lot of features need to be added to this ecosystem really.

After the bandwidth crisis has passed Google says they’ll change it back.
