Yesterday’s outage brought to you by T-Mobile

SprinT Mobile e1523456613362 - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

While reports came across all carriers that there were widespread voice outages, the only company that’s owning it appears to be T-Mobile (which includes Sprint). This is probably correct and not spin.

In Nashville I was able to make calls but they rang and never alerted other people. Texting and data were fine.

A little after midnight Neville Ray, T-Mobile’s president of tech tweeted out things were fixed.

There were some claims that this was a massive DDOS attack on the US yesterday, but it wasn’t. What appeared to happen was T-Mobile/Sprint users suddenly were unable to access a large chunk of the net because Sprint/TM had a network configuration issue.

So yeah… the Sprint / TMobile deployment merger didn’t go as smoothly as it should have and it took them a few hours to figure out what exactly was going wrong. I mean really, all they had to do was combine several thousand towers, integrate several hundred 5G systems, change a few million SIP trunks, modify their combined BGP, throw in a few thousand rules for specific areas… how hard is that?

I kid…
