ZTE’s adding an under-display camera

ZTE Axon 20 5G to be launched on Sep.1 2020

If you hate notches in displays for devoted selfie cameras, there’s some good news! Looks like future phones won’t have to have a mole put on the display for a selfie cam, or use bezel space. ZTE’s launching a device with under-display cameras that hang out behind the screen and presumably turn that spot off while the camera is in use.

One of my primary reasons for not wanting to upgrade from my beloved Note 8 has been that I despise the notch. I suspect that’s true of enough people to have pushed this tech.

Remains to be seen how good this ends up being, but chances are from what I’ve read it’ll be close if not exactly the same quality. We’ll see.

The ZTE event is on September 1, 2020. As I recall ZTE is still banned in the United States, so doubt there will be any to play with here but plenty of other manufacturers are in a mad race to get this tech installed.
