NVIDIA Shield getting Android 11 update today

If you’ve got an Nvidia Shield, chances are good today that Android 11 is coming to it today. You can read the changelog between the previous Android version (9) and the 11 that’s rolling out today if you’re inclined.

Looks like main user-facing highlights will be new keyboard with text to speech capabilities, more advertising, some new NOW RTX 3080 options, Android security patch as of Sept 2021, aptX Bluetooth headset support, some Stadia button support for XBOX, PS, Shield controllers, more advertising, and of course 4K advertising support.

The update will be the Shield Experience 9.0, which isn’t at all confusing since they’re upgrading from Android 9 to 11.

According to 9to5Google this will be the 27th update and applies to all models.

The NVIDIA Shield is one of the longest-supported Android devices out there and there seems to be no reason to stop supporting the old ones as the hardware was more than capable of handling anything that’s been thrown at it the past 7 or 8 years.
