You got Android in my Windows 11

Next month, Android is coming to Windows 11 in a public preview of its not-quite-ready-for-primetime offering according to a post on the Windows Experience Blog. Pretty soon everyone in the Windows ecosystem will be able to run the worst Android marketplace (Amazon’s) to download apps right onto their Windows devices.

The Windows 11 Android subsystem promises to be a step up from traditional emulation software, allowing hardware acceleration and direct access and hopefully will allow a powerful PC to function better than a low end smartphone from 10 years ago. That has been my experience with emulators in the past.

“Next month,” is not exactly a date, but it’s probably being released after patch Tuesday, which should be Feb 8. If so, it will be just in time for you to have your heart broken by Android software on your PC.

There’s a lot of stuff coming to the PC as well including a new media player and some taskbar improvements as well but you can read about them here.
