YouTube Vanced finally shutting down

Vanced was an app that allowed you to not watch advertising on YouTube while avoiding paying Google as well. It’s going away for probably legal reasons after a very long run.

While the prevailing sentiment was that Big Google wasn’t getting the eyeball time for advertising, the reality was smaller content creators were not getting anything for their work unless people reached out and donated to the content creators. Sort of like performing a gig for exposure.

It was an interesting project, I’m surprised it lasted the last 5ish years without Google legal crushing it, but it did.

It was one of my favorite named products due to so many people just not getting that it was Advanced, but without the Ads. Like one long running dad joke that kept going over people’s heads.

RIP Vanced
