The iPod is dead. In other news the iPod was still around.

The iPod was released 20 years ago and as of this writing it’s discontinued but will be available while supplies last. It’s not particularly surprising that it would be discontinued as there are smart shoelaces at this point that can play music, but it is surprising it lasted this long into the smartphone era.

This comes a week or two short of a full decade after the discontinuation of the Zune, which EOLd in June 2012. I guess victory is seeing your rivals vanquished and jumping on their grave for a decade.

I owned two during my life. One was the original with the hard drive. I replaced the drive and the battery. Had to have a card with a special port to access the thing. Second one was stolen and significantly better, except for the reliance on iTunes IMO.
