Netflix’s upcoming ad-supported tier might suck more than expected
Based on a Netflix Q2 earnings call, the Co-CEO claimed he was confident about the new tier, even if it comes without the entire library of movies and series that Netflix currently offers.
Netflix lost over 2 million subscribers in the first half of the year, more than expected but about right for a streaming service that jacked rates, threatened their users, and dangled bringing an ad supported tier in front of people’s faces who were considering leaving Netflix but didn’t see the signs to yet.
As a reminder, feel bad for Netflix – they’re only on tack to make 20 or so billion dollars this year.
There’s obviously no data on what the ad supported tier will or won’t include, or whether there will be any completely no-cost options, but one can speculate based on Netflix shooting itself in the foot again and again they’ll manage to get it wrong.
