YouTube Premium subscription raising prices 53%
I’ve been paying $14.99 a month for my family plan and just got informed that will be $22.99 a month next year to maintain a household YouTube Premium account. A premium account, if you’re not aware, allows you to watch thinly based advertising by YouTube personalities without advertising popping over their advertising.
I got it back in the day because you could not play your music library on demand without it on the old Google Home layout. I believe that’s changed at this point, but way back when that’s the only reason I subscribed to a music service.

YouTube premium lists being able to watch videos without advertising, download videos to watch offline, background play and picture in picture, and YouTube Music Premium.

That’s a whole lot of price jacking for a streaming service that hasn’t innovated, doesn’t routinely deliver from hardware platform to hardware platform, and is rapidly becoming outpaced by other services offering video and music such as TikTok, insert two others the kids are watching these days.
Wow, that stinks… at $15 a month and considering it did what I want, it was cool… but it’s now on my “can I live without it like I did with Google TV? Probably will”
