Like several other services, it looks like Google is planning on launching an ad-supported no charge collection of streaming channels according to the Wall Street Journal. I won’t say free, because it’s not, but you know how fast and loose people play with that word.
This would join services like Tubi, Roku, Pluto, Plex’s offerings, Freevee, Crackle, and a host of others.
It’s a pretty heavily saturated market, but the bar to entry is fairly low (unless we’re talking limbo rules in which case the bar is set pretty high.)
Hopefully the YouTube/Google controlled advertising network for their new venture will be a bit smarter than some ad networks I’ve observed that think showing you the same commercial three times in a row every eight minutes is going to get you to respond favorably.
It’s probably coming, it’s been done before, hopefully Google will do it better by giving somewhat relevant advertising.
