Google attempts to catch up to Bing in lying AI search

SGE is an experiment by Google to bring generative AI capabilities to your searches. A search for restaurants in your area can be narrowed down by asking additional details of a chatbot such as “only restaurants that have gluten free options” and “only sit down restaurants that have not had a shooting incident in the past year” or “has vegetarian options.”

It’s currently being released as a sign-up only option as to minimize the negative potential impact of a very experimental and easily misdirected AI and signups can be done in the Home app under labs or at Google Labs Search Waitlist.

I recently found Microsoft’s generative AI useful in a couple of searches and considering how much I abhor Bing at the moment I’m quite anxious to see what a company that knows how to run a search engine will end up doing with it.

Also hopefully they have come up with a way to prevent the AI from hallucinating events, places, and species as that seems to be the main problem when dealing with real world interactions.
