Google Play Services update causing issues

Looks like Google pushed a Play Services update that is causing some issues such as not being able to see downloaded files, photos, etc.

It currently seems to be affecting mostly Pixel devices, possibly because they’re the group Google tends to use as guinea pigs beta testers.

I highly suspect from what I can locate on the thing that the Play Services are running with the wrong account, which leads to things that were visible being not, but then again all I have to go on is second hand reports and having dealt with similar for years working in IT.

This is the Play Services update, not a system update, so it’s possible it could spread to the rest of the world, but here’s hoping not.

Factory resets appear to fix the phone while deleting everything, and there’s no listed fix yet. Hopefully there will be a fix incoming before I manage to post this article but it’s Google so probably not.

If you’ve got one of the affected devices and ADB you might want to check and see if file permissions were changed on some of the directories… I’m assuming not and that would probably fingerpoint to running services under the wrong account.
