If it weren’t for the ClarionMiND news today, I would’ve thought that Intel-powered MIDs and the United States weren’t on speaking terms anymore. What else but some sort of scuffle could explain why the Aigo MID, Lenovo IdeaPad U8, and now the BenQ S6/Aries2 have turned their noses up at the US and been released in other countries?
Well, okay, the Aigo and Lenovo devices were always intended for the Asian market only and it was revealed last month that BenQ would be launching its 3G-enabled MID slate "in Europe this quarter." But still, it’s hard not to think that the gadgets have the upper-hand when seeing that the S6’s 4.8-inch display can only be touched right now by people in Italy. Even if those in other countries are happy to pay the €429 (~$627) possibly subsidized asking price and don’t mind that the new specs cite only a 2GB flash drive (it used to be 4GB), the spiteful MID is sticking with Telecom Italia.
Hrmph. I don’t like that it doesn’t have a hardware keyboard, anyway.
