Sprint offers free MiFi and three months free service with off-contract Ultrabook purchase
Traditionally, I’ve always steered clear of cell phone carriers when looking at computers due to their limited data plans and costly 2-year contracts, but Sprint has a pretty good deal going on right now that might actually make me look twice. Right now, Sprint is offering the Lenovo U310 Ultrabook for $799.99 off-contract, which is a pretty reasonable price given the specs: it’s got a 1.7GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB harddrive, 32GB SSD, 13.3-inch HD screen, HDMI-out, 1MP webcam, and three USB ports, two of which are USB 3.0.
Are there more powerful computers out there? Sure. But is this still a somewhat reasonable asking price? You betcha.
But what makes this deal even more attractive is that, if you do choose to sign a 2-year contract, Sprint will throw in a free 3G/4G WiMAX MiFi device and give you three months of free data, on either the $34.99 3GB plan or the $49.99 6GB plan.
Granted, Sprint has pretty much abandoned WiMAX expansion, although the current network will be supported throughout the life of this contract, so if you’ve got good coverage now, this may still interest you. And if you don’t want to get locked down in a contract, you can still purchase the Lenovo Ultrabook off-contract – it’s gotten decent review.
