Did your AT&T-locked Dell Streak get the Froyo OTA update?
If the latest rumor is true, then AT&T-locked Dell Streak users should finally be getting the official OTA update to Android 2.2 (Froyo) today.
So . . . did you get it?
If AT&T is really going to start its rollout today (and I know that many of you are understandably doubtful), then you'll either get an update notification without doing a thing or you'll see something like this when you check for the software manually.
The fact that the update hasn't been formally announced by either Dell or AT&T isn't an encouraging sign that it's actually going to be released today, but it's still very early in the day (as I write this, anyway) so there's plenty of time for miracles to happen.
I'm running StreakDroid 1.6.1 on my Streak and am usually only online when my baby girl has gone to sleep for the night, which means I probably won't be around to find out what happens today until after it happens (or doesn't happen). So keep me posted and congratulate or console each other in the comments, okay?

No update notification as of 7:00 AM EST, update page from Settings | About Phone is not available.
I doubt the Streak will be the first AT&T update to 2.2. My issue has been with the broken commitments. Dell and Best Buy associates both told me an update was guaranteed. I sold my Xperia after realizing AT&T was not updating despite the entire planet receiving 2.2. I took a gamble with the Streak being updated but after getting commitments from Dell and BB I felt it would. Now 2 months after the release and no love for AT&T customers I am very disappointed.
Assuming of course that Rogers in Canada would pick up the same update as AT&T. I haven’t noticed any changes as of 7:20 AM EST either. Possibly they are rolling it out on PST?
There should be a class action suit for both AT&T and Dell….We should be able to cancel contract with AT&T…I’ll be happy enough going to TMobile and picking up the 7″ Dell which is 4g and ready for honeycomb. All for 199.00/W 2yr contract….Calling AT&T soon if they don’t upgrade too try and cancel for broken promises.

Well I take that Back!…Just readed a rewiew in Engadget and the Dell 7″ did not fare well….From what I saw the screen was never very bright and the review confirmed this…The Samsung Galexcy won on all frounts.
I am just going to stop looking at tables once and for all and stay with my Streak 5″ tell it goes….I have a new 10″ Hp netbook which has not gotten much use with me chase Dells tail.

Unless you are apprehensive of doing the update yourself, just read up on the easiest way to update via the QDL-Repair tool and you’ll be on 2.2 in less than 15 minutes.
What is up with you people!? There is already an update to froyo. Go to streakdroid.com and everything is there laid out for ya. Why are you depriving yourselves.

A while back, Rogers posted on their “red board” that 2.2 for the Streak would come “sometime before spring” . . .
Because not all Streak’s hardware are perfect and may need to be sent back to Dell sometime because of some malfunctions (unrelated to the ROM flashing).
I’m on my 2nd Streak already, and this 2nd one already starting to factory reset on its own now (3 times in the past two weeks). If you will guarantee me 100% that Dell would not deny my warranty after I flash a Streakdroid, I’ll do it right away. But of course, you won’t.

I PROMISE EVERYONE…. just update ur own phone to 2.2! I PROMISE U WILL LOVE UR STREAK ONCE AGAIN!!! I like many of you has set around and tried to wait PATIENTLY on att and dell but of course, they have proven themselves not to be unreliable! I advise those to search streakdroid.com and use the qdl tool…its safe and fast..basically, once click. Everything is shown to u on how and what to do. Also, just to let everyone know.. I am using Windows 7 64bit..which seems to be a lil difficult to use..but once i figured it out.. it was a snap! if anyone has any questions on how to do so… hit me up and I will gladly walk u thru it! Lastly, thanks to streetsmart,streakdroid, and xda..my streak is everthing i wanted in a phone. FYI: i am not running DJ Steve’s build due to the fact.. I say this because Rogers has had ties with AT&T. At&T used to have part ownership of Rogers. And are still relatively close. So I considered it viable that a AT&T update could very well be suited for a Rogers device with a few tweaks. And minus the extra leg work. The landing pages (when you go to update) for both Rogers & AT&T were updated at the same time. And “sometime before spring” is a ballpark yes. But February 2nd is Groundhog day…and that determines our length of winter. So if they are planning a US release on Feb 1…what are the chances that our “spring” will be decided on Groundhog Day?

All this talk about i want my money back, class action lawsuits, ect… are NONSENSE. You purchased a product. Thats IT. When you buy a computer do you Bit$h that they didnt GIVE you the latest OS a year later???
I personally am happy with my streak as is but am looking forward to seeing what froyo has to offer. I’d still take a 5″Streak over ANY other wimpy 3or4inch screen smartphone regardless of the OS :-)

So sick of AT&T. I updated to 2.2 a couple of weeks back using the QDL tool and the change was amazing. For all of you “I told you so’s” out there lurking on this page, tell me how to make nero sync Oulook with my Streak. nero sync’d all of my pics, music and contacts but no the Outlook.
At this point, if you’re waiting, i’m sorry to be so blunt, but you’re just being lazy. It boils down to the analogy waiting for the landscaper to mow your grass for you or get off your lazy a$$ and do it yourself, and do a better job of it at that. Rooting is legal, the boogie man will not come out and get you when you root and unlock your phone. go to streakdroid and run the qdl tool for the love of pete! 2.2 in no time! the difference? Night and day my friend, night and day! everything is snappy on 2.2, wifi hotspot, 720p video just to name the biggest improvements.

I’m new to this too, but, it didn’t stop me from using the QDLtool to upgrade mine to 2.2 last week using a laptop running Vista.
I had to try it a few times before I got it to work, but, that was because I didn’t have the drivers loaded first. After I had the drivers loaded, it was simply a matter of clicking the RUN button in the QDL tool window.
I’m now running 2.2 with Baseband version 305, build number 10688. I’d like to find out how to get to 318, and also find out what this “performance mod” is that X-MAN spoke of here:

If ATT doesn’t come through with their official update today, my son wants me to upgrade his white Streak tonight.
Well, a lot of people have been promised an update to 2.2 which never came (several times by both dell and BB reps). Although I partly agree with you that lawsuits and money back wont work, but peopl are frustrated becuase the unclocked version has been running on froyo for more than 2 months now.
i think both iphone for verizon and streak 7 will be out before streak 5 gets an update.
Might as well wait for the update. It will be out.

Alright, here is my response to yours. my dell streak now would have been my third one to be honest with you. First one, had touch screen issues. Second which what I have now was acting little crazy when I ATTEMPTED to flash streakdroid rom. I called dell and they sent me another one without a problem. I divided to hold on to the second one bcuz I finally got it to work and flashed 2.2 on it, and also the streak that they sent me was kind of yellow on screen (jenn mention something about this yellowish streak before it wasn’t as clear as the first and second one) so divided to hold on to the second one. But even before I returned the replacement I even played around with it and divided to flash 2.2 froyo on it and then return it to dell. I was thinking they might get upset and charge me for it bcuz I flashed an unofficial froyo rom on it, but nada. I said all of this to prove a point that everyone can do it. So go ahead update your streak and start enjoying what you’ve been missing all this time. I can guarantee you, you will love it. And this update is not just for a specific streak but ALL streak. I upgraded using qdl last week. Went from dull streak to “yes this is how I want to experience this thing ” now it’s great but one problem. I can’t find SLINGPLAYER MOBILE in the app market and it doesn’t seem to want to downnload to the streak since the qdl installation. Has anyone else experience this? Any solutions?

Sideload slingplayer! Google search it, download it on your phone for free, install it!
You may want to pull the battery out and reboot the phone. It may just be coincidence but I had the same issue after using qdl. Market was unable to locate Slingplayer App along with a couple of other apps. I kept checking each day for about a week, then for an unrelated issue I had to pull the battery out. The next time I searched for the app it appeared. Found all apps after that.

Not a good analogy, because sometimes crap happens and phones get bricked, and if you take in a phone with an unofficial ROM you may not get any support.
I just talked to att, and they have no idea about the streak or froyo updates, it really pisses me off
I too just got off the phone (2 hours later) with Dell and AT&T and here is how the conversations went down. Dell stated that their side was ready but AT&T is releasing it when they are ready, she could not confirm a solid release date as, in her words, “it is in AT&T’s hands.” I humbly apologized for my anger against her and then called AT&T. After speaking to a mindless CSR, I went to the Supervisor… his solution? He called the Best Buy store that I purchased it from and asked them when the update was happening. They told him it was today. He could not verify it through AT&T because AT&T has no record of the device nor any software updates because, in his words, “We do not handle the technical issues of the phone, that is up to Dell.” To which I explained the the Dell “UNLOCKED” version of the phone was already update. He was dumbfounded and told me that Best Buy said it was starting today and to give it time. The ultimatum? If I do not get my update by Friday at 11 am CST, AT&T will work out a deal…

I updated my AT&T locked Streak to the unlocked version of 2.2. But I notice that now when I try to download the newer version or any update for that matter it does not start the update. If it is a web download the reboot gets stuck on the Dell logo. If I try to use an update.pkg file on the SD I just get a black screen. The phone boots fine to the current OS. If I hold down the volume keys and do a factory reset it boots fine. I have also held down the camera key when rebooting and typed in *#301# to get to the diagnostics menu. All the tests seem to pass. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to get it to install updates again?

When I try to update the driver by pointing it to the Driver directory under the qdl tool it does not seem to help. When I run the qdl tool it show “Android ADB Connection” but the qdl update fails. I think there may be drivers left on my system from previous software installs. After uninstalling other software packages I cannot seem to get rid of all the ADB drivers. Any suggestions?

I gave up back in November and had to upgrade the hard way flashing each rom and recovery image manually! The QDL Tool is God’s gift to streak users in the US, it couldn’t be any easier!
Starting of course by getting the drivers right for fastboot is the hard part but if you follow the vids on streakdroids website, cross your fingers, and maybe pray a little you will be on your way to a whole new streak!
Simply enough the steps to 1.6.1 DJ_Steve are:
QDL to 2.2
Flash the new recovery image labeled amss for 1.5.1+ via fastboot
Download and place zip file for 1.5.1 on your sd card
Enter Clockwork mod by holding volume up/down while booting
Select ‘upgrade via update pkg’
Clockwork will open
Scroll using volup/down and select(cam button)install zip from sdcard
Then select ‘choose zip from sdcard’
Scroll to the 1.5.1zip and install
Halfway there!
For 1.6.1 you need to create a txt file with the settings you would like in the software. The link with all of the settings is here:
The standard screen settings for att 1.6 is 160 pixel density fyi
For a starting point my settings are:
adwlauncher
tabmail
us160
bios
Type these settings as is in notepad and save as install.txt
Place this on your sdcard
Download and place 1.6.1 zip on your sdcard
Boot into Clockwork like with 1.5.1
Enter Clockwork mod by holding volume up/down while booting
Select ‘upgrade via update pkg’
Clockwork will open
Scroll using volup/down and select(cam button)install zip from sdcard
Then select ‘choose zip from sdcard’
Now Select 1.6.1zip and install
Boot up may take a while but if you guys want your, already amazing, device to blow every other phone away and your battery life to significantly increase then this is your route.
I know it may be overwhelming, I remember when I started the froyo journey, but it is worth the time to learn and upgrade your device!!!

If you have a U.S version of the streak w/ the baseband of 6601.. than u can just get the qdl and the adb drivers and follow the tutorial and it will work..no bricking or anything else.
this can be fixed. what u have do is unistall the drivers in ur dvc mgr and when it tries to auto install…just manually install urself..
i think att not updating to froyo is a legal issue than anything.
I have a feeling they have some kind of deal with apple on when they can release the froyo phones.
Looks like ATT is releasing HTC inspire (with FROYO) on Feb 13.
I’m sure the streak update will come out in the next week or so (if not today)

Ok, FOR EVERYONE THAT HAS A DELL STREAK RUNNING 1.6 I WILL GIVE U MY PERSONAL EMAIL AND I WILL WALK U THRU ALL THE STEPS ON HOW TO GET THE UPDATE ON IT! FYI!!! When u are doing the update.. there is no actual win7 drivers.. u have to use amd64 and use quser driver…but its very easy!! ur phone won’t brick.. it will only fail and u will have to repeat the process over..

the only verison that u would need to update to now is version 318 and all u have to do is google the download link, download it and put it on ur sd card and changed the name to update.pkg and istall it that way.

I did try that but maybe I missed something. There seem to be quite a few ADB drivers on my system. I guess different pieces of software have installed their own drivers. I will try it again tonight.
i just got off the a chat with AT&T and this is what i was told:

Follow Kohawk’s instructions implicitly. This involves downloading the QDL recovery tool and some drivers, deleting some drivers, waving some chicken bones, pulling out some hair, and finally total disbelief when you realize you have successfully hacked your way into a frosty pile of yummy froyo! Try it…you’ll like it.

Just to clarify,
The original (official) version of android that comes with the streak is Android 1.6 (donut) and the offical froyo is Android 2.2.
Not to be confused with the Streakdroid versions: 1.1.1 to 1.6.1 etc which are all versions of froyo that are being regularly improved.

I tried to install the HK update. It rebooted, started unpacking it, then reported “FOTA model mismatch” and rebooted 1.6 as it was, with all my apps and settings.

That just resulted in a name mismatch error and a failure to do anything other than waste 30 minutes of my time.
AT&T’s calendar is off. They thought it was April 1st.
I’ve been patient, but part of the problem is that I don’t have a Windows box on which to run QDL Tools. I think it’s time for me to track one down.

If you have 305 from the qdl tool then go to this link on your streak http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_318_12821_00.pkg and it will update to the most current official release of 2.2 for the us streaks.
I seriously doubt they know what they are talking about but hope they were right for all you waiting for the update.

It sure is voiding your warranty. It is very simply “servicing not authorized by Dell”. All because you are lucky and they don’t check things doesn’t change this.
As for upgrading…I upgraded my Streak to StreakDroid 1.5.1 before I sold it (nobody wanted to buy it with 1.6).
I have an EVO—and I love it. I am just lurking to see when AT&T actually does issue the upgrade.
^^LOL so you called ATT or Dell? and then they made a 3 way call to the other company with you? and then they took the time to go thru the 30-60 mintues of holding and being forwarded to 4-6 different people until they had somebody on the phone who knew what the Streak was? And then ATT & Dell together were able to talk and figure everything out and confirm to just you that the update “will not be released today or anytime soon”???

You can go to the official Dell release of 2.2 via streakdroid. Go live on the edge, it’s worth it. I’ve read through all the threads, seen many people take the plunge, but NOT ONE who did any damge or wasn’t able to get back to 1.6 if the process on streakdroid didn’t work.

I did just that. Now, with any luck, I’m going to update my son’s white Streak from stock 1.6 to 2.2/318. I’ve read that the white Streaks are tricky, so we’ll see what happens in a few minutes.

I just CANCELED my service with ATT. I am loving my T-Mobile mytouch 4g. I still have my Streak and will be flashing a custom rom so I can use it with T-Mobile. I know 3g is not gonna work. ATT won’t unlock my phone even after I paid $300 in my early termination fee. I had a good laugh when they told me that I will have to deposit $1000 in the future if I would want to go back to ATT. She had no answer for me when I asked her WHY WOULD I GO BACK TO ATT THOUGH?

I think it is so crazy that they told Best Buy that they were rolling the update. So everyone going in there would think they are getting it. Even Best Buy employees were duped. CRAZIEST SH*T I HAVE EVER SEEN. I don’t take sh*t from cell companies, but really it sounds like you get f*cked no matter where you go.

I listened to everyone and used QDTool to update. It was a piece of cake. Win 7 64-bit. Had to reinstall ADB drivers cause they failed first time but it worked after 3-4 tries. It took maybe 15 minutes.
Mubarak of Egypt is offering a free update to 2.2 to his supporter.. I am considering it!!

Ok shawn I found it.
When you get to the main part you plug in you streak holding the volume up button and get an error bc the computer cant find the right driver and the tutorial tells you to manually install it pay careful attention to the folders.
ok so kinda running through it roughly:
right click and select update driver
browse computer
pick from list
show all, click next
browse
now make sure you back out of the folder it pops up in and carefully look at the folder it tells you to go to, i kept trying to use the win7 folder and failed for like 3 days.
also make sure your desktop says test mode in the bottom right corner, if your not in test mode and have followed the 64 bit tutorial then restart your computer as these settings will not take effect until you do so.
Remember its the small things that count!

My computer NEVER fails to install the driver, even when I try to manually stop it. It ALWAYS finds a driver to install called “USB Driver…” Have erased/reinsalled/eraseed/reinstalled everything to infinium..lol

Hi Mike, could use some help for my next step. Rogers Streak 1.6. Rooted and Clockwork recovery completed. Now what do I do.
last night i was very angry to ATT so i decided to give it a shot to update 2.2 with baseband, so i googled it around and found a way to do it with QDL Repair Tool. It’s very very easy it took around 4-5mins for me to update the baseband. they also have a video tutorial to show how to do it.

by using this tool you will update your phone to 00 baseband (sim free baseband) and pre-release of 2.2. pre-release of 2.2 was buggy so once i turn on my streak i downloaded and installed the original 2.2 by typing

on dell streak.
i would recommend it to everyone, just take some deep breaths for 5 mins and if you dont have problems with drivers you are done.
also, at my first try i failed but i can say that you wouldnt fail if you follow 1 more step before starting QDL Tool. when you plug it with debug mode on you should see ADB Composite Device and when you plug it with holding the volume up botton you should see the Qualcomm driver.
ok so if i ever gonna do this i will add a step 2 for myself like,
step 1, install the dell streak PC Suite and reboot the pc
step 2, turn on the streak and also turn on the usb debugging thing and connect to the pc, go to device manager and check if it’s ADB Composite Device.
and then follow the steps on their guide.
The important thing that most of the people fail to pass the fastboot step is that they do not check whether it’s ADB Composite Device or not. If you check it before starting to do anything you will not have any problems.
PS: You will still have a sim lock even if you are at 00 baseband.
SHAWN, you should be able to update the driver even after it installs. Go to device manager like in the tutorial and right click on whatever installs and try updating it that way. Sorry forgot about that issue, but give that a try bc I think I had to do it this way.

I’d say finding access to a pc would make life so much easier for you, once you get your streak through qdl you can simply download the zips to your sd and update your phone through clockwork mod.

The one problem is the volume button is backwards on a locked ATT Streak. Hold down the side toward the camera button when you plug in the USB cord and that will get you the Qualcom device in device manager. After that it is a piece of cake. Never looking back again.
Get a WIFI connect on the phone and put that address in the google search bar and the phone will automatically update itself.
I did do that but nothing happens. It doesn’t automatically update itself.
It won’t ever find the Qualcom device manager…

On the advice of the wise folks on this page I upgraded on my own to 2.2 without the help of AT&T or Dell. Fantastic machine! I don’t know why I waited. I think I will venture out to one of DJ-Steve’s ROM’s after he finishes his Honeycomb work but this is a very poor reflection of Dell and AT&T. Hell I don’t even know who to point the finger at for this mess. Shame on them both.
I updated last night. Typing that address into my Streak didn’t automatically start the update for me. It did lead me to this page on the Dell forums — http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/3824/p/19353639/19816405.aspx — which contains a link to that address. When I went to the Dell forum page and clicked on the link, the update began to download. It took a really, really long time to download — might have been 20 minutes. There was a little “downloading” icon in the status bar at the top of my Streak’s home screen. When the download finally finished, I clicked on the downloaded file, and at that point the actual update began. No, I have no clue why trying to go directly to the location wouldn’t start the download, but going to a page that contained the link did work. That’s just the way it happened.
Have you checked to make sure that your WIFI is working after the initial Froyo install? I had to re-connect to my home network and enter the security key again — installing Froyo wipes out your pre-existing settings.
Mike if you would please send me detailed instructions on how to update mine. I have the white streak running 1.6. I am also running windows 7 64 bit OS. I would deeply appreciate it. my email address is [email protected]. I am ready for my streak to be at it’s best.

They confirmed that the 2.2 has NOT been released yet and they have no idea when.

I was an early purchaser of the streak 5, and an avid fan, follower of the device. I was so let down every time a rumor turned into nothing. I finally downloaded the QDL tool yesterday, followed the tutorial, now I can’t believe that I waited for so long for the official OTA update. I feel like I have a brand new, even more awesome phone! Do yourself a favor people. . .just slap 2.2 on it! It won’t void your warranty, will make your life happy.
Feb. 3, and no update. There’s no way I’ll try to update the phone myself. Not because I’m a technophobe, but because this is the buggiest computing device I’ve ever owned, of any kind, and I’m certain something will go wrong with the upgrade.

Hello Mike. I could use a boost in conf with going from AT&T 1.6, 1231, 6601 to DJ 1.6.1 I have used Fastboot on other Streak that have been replaced as of now. was waiting for Dell’s 2.2 but am done. All this QDL stuff is new since I last flashed. I waited a few days as I am sure a lot of users hit you up for your help. If you have the time, would love some help as all I have are Windows 7 cpu’s.

Loading the drivers correctly is the hardest part. Load the drivers for 1.6 from dell and make sure you have USB turned on in the phone settings and you can see it as a portable hard drive in “my computer”. Then follow the directions in the upgrade guide that is mentioned in the first part of this thread. I found on my locked ATT with 1.6 the volume buttons were reversed, so hold down the button toward the camera button when plugging in the usb cable and the phone must be off. The upgrade was easy once you get the drivers loaded.
Talked to AT&T tech and customer support (extremely unprofessional individual – ID JW563G) last night and they verified there is no upgrade for the locked Dell phones in the foreseable future. Don’t expect one anytime soon. Also mentioned that if we upgrade ourselves it will soon be incompatible with their network…I don’t believe it, but that is their stance. Horrible customer service. I will never sign another deal with AT&T. Unfortunately, Dell’s hands are tied as they have released the upgrade for the unlocked phones and AT&T just is not cooperating.
I recommend everyone with a locked AT&T phone call and complain. Our contracts should be cancelled without penalty.

Hey guys just wondering if i did something wrong, i used the qdl tool to get the pre-release of 2.2 and then my internet through my at&t network stopped working. so i thought hey update to dj steve’s rom and that will fix it. Wrong, the rom was very fast and efficient but did not fix my internet problem. ended up bricking my fone and just got dell to send me another one. Anybody got input as to what i might have done wrong? I am up for round two instead of waiting on at&t to get off their ass.

Well it seems that you either work for dell, work for at&t, or hate people having a better phone than your EVO. I got the white streak from best buy for 100$ and the second dell and at&t decided not to release froyo on the 12th of Jan i flashed my phone and put 2.2 on there. I only have one problem with it but the people who i bought it from BEST BUY told me how to fix it and showed me on my phone which obviously wasn’t running 1.6. I don’t know if you have ever been to best buy but they are super strict on their policies here in Texas.
To all of you still on 1.6, get froyo immediately. Show all your friends with that dumb iphone 4g what a real phone is like.

For Streak customers with Google Android 1.6 or 2.1, the Streak Froyo Update will be completed in two phases
Phase 1 : The first OTA (over-the-air) update will be available to customers who purchased their Streaks as unlocked units. The rollout of the upgrade will be gradual with different regions and versions of Donut and Eclair updated after this process begins. When a user’s device is ready for an update, the user will be notified by an update icon in the notification bar after a power up. A user can also manually check for an update by going to Settings – About Device and selecting System Updates. Devices ready for update will then be taken through the update process.
Phase 2: Eventually, users on devices locked to a specific carrier (i.e. you can only use your carrier’s SIM in the device) will start seeing updates as we work with our carrier partners for technical approval

I was able to complete the streakdroid froyo update myself on ATT locked 1.6 phone. Took some work and patience. Ultimately had to borrow a fresh computer and follow the instructions on how to load the ADW drivers.
Very happy and now considering the dj steve roms.

Gave up on waiting. Now happily running the Froyo 2.2 upgrade. Be sure to root immediately after install of 318 Froyo upgrade. Use SuperOneClick ver 1.5.5., you may need to run the root twice. Other versions of SuperOneClick will not work! Neither will R4 or any others. Install Titanium backup to add Busybox.
Was running steve’s 1.6.1 and had airplane mode turn itself on and get stuck. Tried to flash 1.5.1 but couldn’t get past the dell logo. Did a factory reset and now everything is working but I’m on 1.5.1.
The update will roll out Wednesday. ====, Wednes Day feel like it.
^ Well, Wednesday came and went, and no update. I have a feeling there’s just never going to be an update, and Dell is biding its time until the Opus One comes out.
I told you guys, Weds 2/23. It’s out and available for download.
If I told you how I found out, I would have to terminate you all with extreme prejudice. My source would kill me.
Enjoy, lets hope it works. I was assured there are no problems, unless you played with the streak prior to the download. Remember to back up. And download to our PC the updated sync program from Dell.
I said to much already, As long if you did not play with your unit all will be smooth.
