Inventec Dr. Eye N18 Android clamshell overpriced and available

Dreye-n18-iknowDespite its silly name, the Dr. Eye N18 Android clamshell by Inventec got a fairly warm reception when it was first spotted at Computex this past summer. Even though it was designed for students, we could all appreciate its 4.8-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, front camera, storage-expanding microSD card slot, and multiple configurations that included built-in 3G. Its 624MHz Marvell processor wasn't anything to get excited about, but at least it was running Android 2.1.

As the seasons changed, however, so did the Dr. Eye N18, which is now available for purchase from Singapore-based iKnow DigiHub eStore. I've been in touch with the retailer about a few things and can confirm that the device can be shipped to the US with no problem.

Actually, it's only not a problem if you don't mind paying 652 Singapore dollars (~$506) for a unit that now runs Android 1.5 (yes, 19-month-old Cupcake) and will never be upgraded.

Considering that you can get the more powerful Sharp IS01 Android clamshell for less than $250, I don't know why anyone would want the Dr. Eye N18. But if you've got a reason, then feel free to grab one from the link below.
