Microsoft evangelist backtracks on Apollo upgrade statement

Nuno_says_no

Do you remember Microsoft evangelist Nuno Silva? He was in the news this week for saying that all current Windows Phones will be upgradeable to Apollo. That was denied by some people a while after his statement was posted all over the internet – and today, Silva himself took back what he said. Said Silva in a blog post:

"I mistakenly confused app compatibility with phone updateability, which caused the rumors we saw yesterday. I did not intend to give the impression I was offering new guidance on any products under development or their upgradeability."

When I wrote up my original post on this issue, I also stated that there's a discrepancy in all of these Apollo rumors: they all talk about Mango devices getting Apollo, but Tango is the next version of Windows Phone 7.

I'm not Microsoft, though, and I don't know exactly what the company is planning on doing to its existing customers. But I do know that the folks in Redmond have a lot of business sense, which means they should be able to make the right decision for current Windows Phone users; in other words, they should update current phones to Apollo.
