Dirty Unicorns Android 4.4.2 for the HTC EVO 4G LTE released

Dirty Unicorns 4.4.2 HTC EVO 4G LTE

We’ve covered a lot of the Team D.I.R.T.’s Dirty Unicorns ROMs in the past on the EVO line, and no doubt we’ll be covering them in the future on the One lines as well, but for the moment there’s been a new release that supports the Android 4.3+ partition layout that HTC released and yanked months back.

The ROM is AOSP, which mostly means you’re going to miss out on the Sense camera, but with the DU additions you get amazing performance, battery life, and a feature set that puts most stock ROMs to shame.

The current feature list reads like a joke setup to end with “…and the kitchen sink” because it has a wide featureset that doesn’t seem to end. Highlights include an ad-free toggle mode, App Opps, Halo (because the fight’s not finished,) hardware key remapping, Active Display, gesture anywhere, OmniSwitch, blacklists for calls and SMS, and Dirty Tweaks.

It’s rather important to note that you previously have to be on the Android 4.3 update from HTC, or have at least flashed Captain Throwback’s update in the past to get to the new partition layout. Attempting to flash this on a stock HTC EVO 4G will result in goats falling from ladders or something bad I’m sure. At the very least you’ll be left with a very soft brick, easily recoverable, but unbootable.

Also as this is AOSP, you’ll need to download and flash a GAPPS package, which they’ve got a link to in the development thread.

As all the questions we get in the past are “how’s the data on this DU release,” when dealing with the HTC EVO 4G LTE versions of Dirty Unicorns, I’ll state right out of the gate I can’t test it as that’s not my activated phone any more. So let us know if the old data wonkiness is still around.

Happy flashing!
