Fujitsu UMPC at WinHEC 2007

The convertible Fujitsu UMPC that everyone got a peek at last month is getting a fair amount of attention today as it sits behind glass at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC). In addition to snapping a few pictures, attendees also got ahold of a relatively full set of specs. Most of it just confirms what has already been revealed, but there are a handful of new bits to share.

  1. Windows Vista Business
  2. Wireless LAN
  3. Fingerprint sensor
  4. Mouse pointer

Notice I didn’t say any of it was particularly exciting. It isn’t. Even when combined with previously released specs (800MHz Intel A110 processor, 1GB RAM, 40GB HDD, 5.6" 1024 x 600 display; no mention of the two integrated cameras or SD card slot this time around), I still can’t see the "wow" in it. Because aside from running on the new Ultra Mobile Platform, the unit seems a tad outdated and even a little boring. Maybe it’s just the design.

An official announcement is expected to be made soon, so I’m not giving up hope yet. I’d actually love to see those white accents a little less white when the UMPC is released; the silver in the computer-rendered images was a lot more appealing.
