Fujitsu convertible UMPC details
At last week’s UMPC showcase at IDF 2007, the unnamed Fujitsu UMPC was the only one of the bunch sporting the mini clamshell convertible design more commonly associated (in the post-Origami handtop world) with Kohjinsha.
Information on the UMP-based device since then has been hard to come by, but a recent find indicates that in addition to an 800MHz Stealey processor, the unit will sport a 5.6-inch 1024 x 600 display, 40GB hard drive, 1GB memory, two integrated cameras, and an SD card reader. These specs have not been confirmed or (as far as I know) even acknowledged by Fujitsu, but there’s really nothing in there to balk at.
And although there’s definitely something eye-catching and appealing about a swiveling display, I’ll honestly be a bit surprised if this UMPC gets released as it is. I’d like to play with one, of course, but I also can’t help but think of that Sesame Street song: "One of these things is not like the others / One of these things just doesn’t belong."
