At last week’s UMPC showcase at IDF 2007, the unnamed Fujitsu UMPC was the only one of the bunch sporting the mini clamshell convertible design more commonly associated (in the post-Origami handtop world) with Kohjinsha.
Information on the UMP-based device since then has been hard to come by, but a recent find indicates that in addition to an 800MHz Stealey processor, the unit will sport a 5.6-inch 1024 x 600 display, 40GB hard drive, 1GB memory, two integrated cameras, and an SD card reader. These specs have not been confirmed or (as far as I know) even acknowledged by Fujitsu, but there’s really nothing in there to balk at.
And although there’s definitely something eye-catching and appealing about a swiveling display, I’ll honestly be a bit surprised if this UMPC gets released as it is. I’d like to play with one, of course, but I also can’t help but think of that Sesame Street song: "One of these things is not like the others / One of these things just doesn’t belong."[GottaBeMobile]
