Nokia N810 Internet Tablet revealed
One of the most exciting announcements to come out of the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco today was the big reveal of the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet, long-rumored successor to the now cheaper-than-ever N800.
Scheduled for release in mid-November for about $480, the N810 is actually much more of an upgrade than its model number suggests. In addition to the obvious cosmetic changes of the smaller but heavier device (hooray for the hardware keyboard!), the 5.04" x 2.83" x 0.55" unit houses a faster processor, integrated GPS receiver, new Maemo Linux operating system (OS2008), Mozilla-based browser (the beta is already excellent, so the "real" one should be amazing), ambient light sensor, and more supported Bluetooth profiles.
All this is on top of the already great specs retained from the N800, which means the 4.1-inch touchscreen (800 x 480, 65K colors), wi-fi connectivity, stereo speakers, built-in desk stand, microphone, miniSD card slot (one instead of two?), and webcam haven’t gone anywhere.
The price seems a bit high (the N800 entered the market at $399) and I’m a little disappointed that it didn’t get a boost in memory (128MB RAM, 256MB Flash), but I’m still going to have to do a little reshuffle of the items on my prioritized gadget wishlist. The N810 definitely needs a spot near the top.
