Gigabyte M528 MID loses built-in 3G [Updated]

Update 8.21.08: 3G is included after all.

A few forum members recently noticed that the Gigabyte M528 MID, which was selling for a reasonable $685 last week, has been pulled from Expansys USA. The original product page leads instead to a "product not found or is not available in this region" message and includes a link to the UK site, where the MID is being sold for £434 (about $808). This is already a serious blow to US buyers, who now need to pay an extra $100+ for the device, and today UMPCPortal brings word that it gets worse . . . for everyone.

As it turns out, one of the best features of the M528—integrated HSDPA—actually isn’t included. The "HSDPA mini card module" originally listed has been changed to "HSDPA available through mini card module (available separately)." How much more this "new option" will cost isn’t known, but $800 for a WiFi-only MID already isn’t looking good here in the US.
