From the initial speculation and discussion, those HP WebOS tablet rumors have been getting louder, reaching a new peak at the end of last week with DigiTimes reporting that a representative from HP Taiwan has confirmed the development of such a device with a planned release by October this year. Monty Wong, vice president of the personal computing systems group, added that the new WebOS tablet will also be supported by a wide range of software and applications at launch and that we can expect to hear more details regarding HP's plans after the completion of the Palm acquisition at the end of July. One thing consumers probably won't be seeing is a netbook/smartbook WebOS device.

I know I'm not alone in thinking that WebOS would be a great choice of operating system for a tablet device and getting some confirmation from someone inside HP is great news. Of course we can't be sure until we get an official statement from the company, which I'm hoping will be in the next month or two!
