Video: Live wallpapers on Dell Streak with Android 2.1

Streak-lwp

One of the small niceties about running Android 2.1 on the Dell Streak is being able to use live wallpapers. There’s a nice selection of them already included in 2.1, but there are many more available in Android Market and elsewhere on the internet. Some live wallpapers are CPU-intensive and can consume a lot of battery life, while others use a negligible amount of resources.

All of the preloaded live wallpapers and most of the third-party ones work well on the Streak. There are a few I’ve tried that work better in portrait mode (you remember how to rotate the Streak’s home screen, right?) than landscape, but most have no problem switching orientations.

I put together a short video showing various live wallpapers on the Streak, which you can see below.

  • I don’t get it guys, these are gimmicks at best and I find some highly distracting…some of these must also be killing battery life

  • Jenn! I see that you have the Matrix Live Wallpaper on the Streak. I have still not flashed to 2.1 yet, so could you please tell me how the Matrix live wallpaper is? I am very eager to try it out. Is it smooth? Does it look like the movie? ect?

  • No, nothing like the movie at all. This one is very, very slow. Tried it on my EVO (same CPU/GPU but running Froyo) and it was the same. I will try on my Droid X and see what happens. There are other Matrix live wallpapers in the Market, though, so maybe those produce better, more realistic results.

  • Ah that is too bad to hear. I am so excited if a Developer did the Matrix live wallpaper properly. I will search the marketplace once I do the update, thanks for the information.

I agree. Not having used Android yet, these appear to be more graphic demos. I may change my mind once I actually get started and download my own. Looking on Android Market, there appear to be some clock wallpapers. For now it just reminds me of MS Active Desktop. ;-]
