Maximus Weather Clock for HTC EVO combines battery, weather, and clock widget into one

Evo-maximus-clock If you're running low on home screen space on your HTC EVO 4G, then you're probably looking for ways to consolidate. Folders are a great way to reduce the amount of apps taking up rows and rows of space, but what about widgets?

The new Maximus Weather Clock, released over the weekend, can help you with that. It combines a battery, clock, and weather widget into a single widget that asks for nothing more than a 2×2 spot on your home screen and use of your GPS radio to get you the weather forecast. The battery meter is that green ring you see around the clock; it forms a circle when the battery is full and becomes less complete as the power drains.

Beyond being able to change the frequency of weather updates and select a URL or an app to open when the widget is tapped, Maximus Weather Clock is a good example of "what you see is what you get." There are currently no additional clock skins, weather graphics, or battery meter colors/styles to choose from. The existing design should blend in pretty nicely with most wallpapers, themes, and home screen setups, but some choices would be nice to see in a future update.

There are two versions of Maximus Weather Clock, one for free and one for $1. Both are identical right now—I don't know if the donate version will eventually have additional exclusive features—but since I personally think it's important to support devs, I think it's worth going for the donate version if you try the free one and end up using it.

I like the “ring” style battery indicators. It would be cool if I could incorporate something like this in the “Make your own clock” program. That would make that widget top dog for me.

That’s a sweet wallpaper, can you post a link to that?

  • no doubt, I love Make your own clock.

  • I recently installed SiMi Clock Widget which does the same and only takes up one row. This looks nice, but I don’t think anything can beat SiMi.

  • Don’t see. The weather in the widget. What gives.

Right in the center of the face.
    Partly cloudy, night, 31 degrees.

  • Don’t think so Echodawg, I only see the green ring, the hour and minutes dial and the gray circle. No weather information on the screen. Ian B

  • I needed space so badly on my homescreen I got a watch for time and stepped outside to figure out the weather.

Click on the picture of the widget above so you can see a larger version of the image. Look closely:

In the Center of the Clock there is a picture of the Moon, it’s gray and kind of blends in with the clock so it’s hard to notice. Moon = Night.

Partially covering up the bottom half of the moon is a cloud, which means it’s cloudy out.

Below that you see 31°, that is the current temperature.

It’s there, you just have to look closely.

  • It is not in the center of the clock. Even the temp degree is not there. This widget must be defective and will uninstall as defective. I even uninstalled and reinstalled 3x with same results. Too bad the developer is not monitring this posting or advise.

    Ce la vie.

  • I installed, had everything (weather, time, battery) – after 2 reboots for other things it disappeared. I no longer see temperature nor weather info… just a plain jane clock…

  • considering that after 2 reboots I lost the weather and temp, I now do have to step outside…

  • Ok, so playing around with this, here’s how to get the temp and weather to display: open google maps (or Yelp!), make sure there’s a fix for your location, put the clock back up, weather will be there.

  • He was _not_ referring to the example above. Like several of us, the weather portion of the widget is not functional on our individual Evo’s. For whatever reason. :)

  • THANKS! Setting this up for a friend…

  • As I was going to say before reading mildlydisturbed’s post — it’s probably not giving you weather/temp because it can’t get a fix on your location. Obviously, it doesn’t need that info to tell time or to tell you your battery usage.

On a related note, it’s unfortunate that this widget requires GPS to work. Other apps (even Google Maps) can get your approximate location without the GPS signal.

  • so, all that water on the screenshot up there is just their background image? I ask as, well, I have little clouds with 4 blue dots that indicate rain. Am feeling a little disenchanted (thought like the Sense clock it would pepper the whole screen)

    Reply
  • Correct, It needs to get a gps fix on your location not using the mobile networks.

As for background.. yes, that is my wallpaper, the app does not add the water droplets. (sorry)

    thanks

  • why not just let us hard code a zipcode for location? battery drain… although I have the 3500mah battery and I’m not concerned, I just like having that turned off if not in “real” use.
