Good and EVOSoftware Updates

HTC EVO 3D to receive major OTA update to version 2.08.651.2 tomorrow, August 18

We already knew that a software update for the HTC EVO 3D was coming sometime this month to prepare it for HTC's official bootloader unlocking tool. What we didn't know was whether anything else would be included in the update.

Thanks to a recent leak of the official Sprint playbook, we now know that the EVO 3D will receive an OTA update tomorrow, August 18, bumping it up to version 2.08.651.2. According to the playbook, this update will include the following enhancements and fixes:

  • Device Lockscreen stuck in "half-state"
  • Ability to transfer all contacts over Bluetooth
  • Birthday one day off between contacts and Facebook when synced
  • Random GPS coordinates issue
  • Lockscreen displays 3 digit temperature correctly
  • Spiderman demo lockups
  • Making additional preloaded apps uninstallable by user
  • Update to applications: Spiderman, Watch, Qik

I don't know about you, but I'm most intrigued by the second to the last bullet. Perhaps Sprint's Fared Adib had something to do with this?

In any case, you can start manually checking for the update tomorrow (Menu > Settings > System Updates > HTC software update). Otherwise, you will be notified of the update on August 23.

As always, if you are rooted the "unofficial" way, you risk losing root access if you apply this OTA update. However, I have a gut feeling that HTC might not be as concerned about disabling root access through OTAs going forward, especially since this update should prepare the EVO 3D for the official bootloader unlocking tool.

Now, if only HTC and Sprint would finally update the EVO View 4G to Honeycomb – then I'd be an extremely happy camper!
