The theme of Huawei in 2014 is, “Make it possible with 4G LTE.” Pocketables is live at Huawei’s press conference, happening now, with Colin Giles, the Executive Vice President Huawei Consumer Business Group.

10:08 – Changing from ODM manufacturer to OEM manufacturer. 95% of products shipped worldwide have Huawei brand. 80% of phones shipped are smartphones.

10:09 – Huawei is now the number three smartphone manufacturer in the world, after only several years of shipping products, after Samsung and Apple.

10:10 – Huawei created a new trend by shipping a 6.4-inch screen, More competitors have followed and rolled out similar products. Target for 2014 is shipping 80 million smartphones.

10:11 – Also wants to highlight mobile broadband range of products, which can also help with radio technology in smartphones. Trends in products now are to be miniaturized.

10:12 – Will be bringing MBB products to automobiles. Huawei global brand awareness is up 110%.

10:13 – 4G LTE – Huawei is already a leader in LTE networks globally. Launched the first LTE network in Norway, and rolled out LTE networks in 100 capital cities worldwide.

10:14 – Focus areas for 2014:

  • Going to start innovating across full product range

10:15 – “We talked to consumers.”

  • Consumers want better visual experiences, including high quality photos.
  • Consumers want more powerful processors in their devices.

10:20 – At CES 2013, Huawei launched the Ascend Mate, the largest smartphone screen in the world with 6.1-inch screen and longer battery life with 4050mAh. Launched in over 40 countries worldwide in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

10:30 – Average heavy internet user uses smartphone for at least 6 hours/day, so battery life is very important. This phone has a 4050mAh battery that is 30% more efficient with patented power saving technology. This has more than 2 days of uninterrupted performance. Beats even the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

10:42 – Phone manager. You are the master: your notifications, permissions, harassment filter, and do not disturb mode. Allow only selected applications to start automatically when the phone turns on. Also allow selected applications to keep running after the screen is turned off. Floating windows can be used to take advantage of the large screen.
