High demand for Google Nexus 9 is causing HTC to increase production capacity
Well, well, well – HTC might finally have a serious hit on its hands. According to the latest reports out of Taiwan, worldwide demand for the Google Nexus 9 is so high that HTC is being forced to increase production capacity to fulfill orders.
HTC North Asia president Jack Tong revealed this at a product launch ceremony in Taipei, where he also said that the popularity of the Nexus 9 is thanks, in part, to the success of the Nexus 7. Tong told reporters after the ceremony that, “Consumers from major destination markets are really excited about the launch of the Nexus 9.”
It’s unclear whether HTC’s 50% off Nexus 9 flash sale had anything to do with this demand, although it’s unlikely given the fact that HTC only set aside a small amount of inventory for the special pricing.
Although HTC has enjoyed a lot of success with the HTC One series among tech journalists and others in the industry, it still had not really broken through to many mainstream consumers who are still enraptured by Apple and Samsung. ASUS did enjoy immense success with the Nexus 7, though, so hopefully HTC can keep the momentum going – even if the standard pricing is a bit harder on the checkbook.
