Returning the Asus Eee PC 2G Surf

Eee_2g_surf_returnWell, wouldn’t you know it? Compiling the 10 reasons not to buy the Asus Eee PC 2G Surf the other day has turned into the 10 reasons to return the 2G Surf for me.

I wanted the mini notebook in spite of knowing about most of the 2G Surf’s shortcomings and having no space in my life for a 7-inch computer (a lesson learned from my largely unused and eventually eBay-ed Samsung Q1P), so my decision probably isn’t too unexpected. I honestly had no intention of returning the unit as I wrote my "10 reasons" piece, though. Only after the post was published did it really dawn on me that I was holding on to something I was easily able to come up with 10 reasons to avoid. And when I see it sitting beside my Vaio TZ, Fujitsu U810, and a mess of other stuff, I realize again how much I won’t use it.

So, the pink Eee PC I unboxed on Valentine’s Day is going back to where it came from tomorrow. I briefly considered returning it and paying an extra $100 for the 4G model but after seriously evaluating my mobile tech lifestyle, I’ve decided to stick to my original "no more 7-inch devices" promise and use the money for a handful of smaller gadgets or a high-end pair of headphones.
