Asus developing a Eee Pad tablet MID?

According to a report on DigiTimes, industry sources have indicated that Asustek is developing a web tablet MID called the Eee Pad. The device is rumored to combine the functionality of a tablet PC and MID and have a 4- to 7-inch display that we assume to be a touch screen. Interestingly, the report also states that Asus' inspiration behind the development of this new product is the much rumored Apple Tablet.

At first this seems like it's coming out of left field, but keeping in mind Asus' pedigree and its role in pioneering the booming netbook segment (not to mention last year's R50A slate), this could be a very interesting development. Could we be looking forward to a capable and affordable UMPC tablet from Asus?
