Acer Iconia Tab A500 now available

iconiatab - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

You would think that at once point companies would sit down and say “guys, I know we talked about doing this tablet, but there are 10 other literally identical tablets out there so I think we need to rethink this plan”. You would think, but you’d be wrong. After the Xoom, Transformer, Toshiba Tablet, Galaxy Tab 10.1″ and probably a couple more I’ve forgotten, there’s now the Acer Iconia Tab A500 that’s now at Best Buy in the US for $450. Dual core 1Ghz Tegra 2, 1280×800 screen (10.1″), Wifi only, Honeycomb, 2/5mpix front/rear camera and 8 hours of battery life. In other words, I’m not exaggerating when I say “identical”. The colors might vary and they might have slightly different stock software, but that’s it. While $450 isn’t bad, $400 for the Transformer is better, and that has a docking accessory available too. The only people who would actually buy this are people who accidentally walk into it at Best Buy and buys it, research be damned. Seriously, people, I’m moments away from banning the brand name of the next such tablet from this site forever. Enough is enough. At least put a bloody flashlight or something on the thing so it’s at least a little bit different.
