Onkyo remote app gives your HTC EVO control of your entertainment system

OnkyoHeader

As someone who loves his Onkyo surround sound entertainment volume at 11, I despise the remote control for it is just another dust collector on my coffee table. So you can understand my excitement for the soon to be released HTC EVO app that will give you control of any 2011 model network A/V receiver from Onkyo.

Connecting through your home's wireless network, Onkyo's remote app will allow users to do more than just control the volume of their surround sound receiver. Included in the app is the ability to stream media locally stored on your device as well as select the active input source. Another highlight item is the ability to control the output in individual zones in a multi-room distributed audio set-up. Onkyo teases that more features will come with the app but has yet to tell us what those might be.

This will be a free app when it hits the Android Market. An exact date has not been announced by Onkyo; just a vague August release time table has been given. Read on to see some of the teased images of the interface and how it will look.

First we have what I can only assume is a screenshot of the app's splash screen.

Here is what might be the main interface where you can switch between menus.

Onkyo2

Finally is what looks to be the input menu where you can select the active device connected to your Onkyo receiver.

  • I have been using Onkytroller pro for awhile and it works very well it shows what is playing from server on phone screen. Shows the playlist and sometimes it shows album jacket if it is in folder. It works better than the factory Onkyo remote plus it works from anywhere in the house. It has bass and treble adjustment you can switch to all sources including internet streaming as well as any folder or playlist from server files. It control zones if you use that on your receiver. You can change sound settings i.e. DTS Dolby EX etc.

  • Hello,
What is disappointing is that the App is said only to be applicable to the 2011 Onkyo Lineup according to Onkyo’s Website. This is the TX-NRx09 AVR’s and HTIB’s (Home Theater in a Box)

I have a TX-NR3008 which is a $2,100 Dollar AVR and still current and according to this, my AVR will not be compatible.

Since the EVO 3D offers DLNA, I can still Stream Music from my 3D to my AVR Wirelessly already, but it would be nice to have full Remote Control Functions via the 3D.
    Cheers,
    JJ
