Viewsonic ViewPad 7e finally shipping this month

6a00d83451c9ec69e201543543c1b0970c-320wiWe first heard about Viewsonic's ViewPad 7e budget Android tablet in late August. Then, about two weeks after that in September, the company announced that it was ready to take $199 for a preorder for the tablet. Now, almost two months later, the ViewPad 7e is ready to start shipping sometime this month.

At just $199, the 7e is going to compete head-to-head with Amazon's tablet offering, the Kindle Fire. In my opinion, though, you'll get more for your money with the 7e than the Fire. While the 1GHz single-core processor will be no match for the Kindle's dual-core one, the ViewPad offers more functionality, including front- and back-facing cameras, a microSD slot, and mini- and micro-USB ports. You can also connect it to your HDTV, thanks to the HDMI port.

As for software, the ViewPad comes preinstalled with most of Amazon's Android suite of apps, like the Amazon Appstore and the Kindle app.

It's certainly your choice; as for me, though, I'd throw my $199 towards Viewsonic instead, especially since you won't have to wait any longer than you would for the Fire.
