Clockwork ROM Picks: Joeykrim Original 1.2.0 for HTC EVO 3D

Clockwork-joeykrimWelcome to the third installment of Clockwork ROM Picks, showcasing the variety of ROMs for the HTC EVO 3D that can be easily downloaded and flashed using ROM Manager by ClockworkMod. So far, we’ve told you about FreEVO 3D and Absurd by the Evervolv Project, but this time we’d like to keep things as stock as possible.

Say hello to developer joeykrim, whose ROM is aptly named Joeykrim Original. What’s the goal of this ROM? As joeykrim himself writes: “Create a stock ROM with a completely stock system to be customized however the user wants and include developer tools. I run this on my device and wanted to share with any who want.”

Like a lot of the custom ROMs for the EVO 3D that are currently in existence, this one is not based off of the latest OTA security update, but rather software version 2.08.651.2. However, the update can be easily applied without losing root – you’ll just have to reflash Superuser in recovery to regain root access afterwards. It’s also worth noting that this is odexed, although a de-odexed version is supposedly in the pipeline.

What sets this ROM apart from other stock ROMs, however, are some unique developer tools that joeykrim includes. For example, this ROM will automatically clear the dalvik cache as needed, whereas most other ROMs require this to be done manually. Additional developer applications include busybox, eng RUU and xbin tools, flash_image, and remount. Joeykrim has also stripped the cryptography signature from the boot kernel to support custom kernels.

I’ve decided not to do my normal list with bullet points this time, as this ROM is so close to stock that there’s really no point. The purpose of this ROM is really to pack together as many tools as possible into a single package, so that users can do what they please with their phones. In other words, there’s no need to worry with this one that the developer left out Sprint TV and now you have to figure out how to get it back. Everything is left up to you.
