HTC EVO Design 4G gets the unlock treatment from HTC

Evo-design-htcdevGood news today for HTC EVO Design 4G users: HTC is finally officially supporting the latest member of the EVO family in its bootloader unlocking tool, which will allow users to easily install a custom recovery and get root permissions.

Of course, this isn't as cool as getting S-OFF, and many people don't like HTC knowing that they've rooted their device. However, it's still a reasonably good solution for those who are wary of trying unofficial root methods, which have been known to damage devices in the past.

Additionally, I have to give HTC props for keeping their word and officially supporting the unlocking of even more devices, even if it's not an entirely complete unlock.

Notably, support for the EVO View tablet is still missing, as is the original EVO 4G (I doubt we'll ever see the latter here). However, I was able to unlock my View simply by selecting the Flyer on HTC's site, so it can still be done.

Now, if only the EVO Design was intriguing enough for me to go out and buy one… Are there any EVO Design owners out there, eager to root?
