Sprint chugs along with 3G network improvements, this time in Vegas

Las-vegas

It seems like Sprint is on a roll these days! All across the country, Sprint is improving network capacity and 3G data speeds, and for many HTC EVO users, this couldn't happen quickly enough.

The latest market that Sprint wants to show off is Las Vegas. In the past three months, Sprint has completed 63 network capacity upgrades, including building out a new tower, and it still has 52 planned for the next three months.

From the official press release:

We’ve seen the commercials: “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” Well, maybe not anymore. With Sprint (NYSE: S) enhancing 3G network coverage around Las Vegas, customers there will be able to communicate (i.e. confess) to friends all the fun (i.e. misdeeds) they’re having during the holiday season, from shopping to festive parties to glittery stage shows.

This is just in time for CES in early 2012, where Sprint is planning some kind of big announcement. At least they won't have to be embarassed about the network then! So if you're in Vegas right now, how are data speeds on your EVO looking?

I have lived in Las Vegas for about 13 years and have had Sprint for about 8 years the 3g covergage has been great by the strip (except if your in a huge casino filled with iron and and about a billion things that are going to affect your signal) but very spotty not near the strip (for us locals) I had to get an airave just to pick up in my house. The new tower they put in is North of the city and close to where I live so once its online I will let you know how the coverage is…..4g also very spotty hope are are making improvements to this or maybe they setting the ball rolling on LTE??????

I’m all for 3g improvements especially because I don’t have 4G in south jersey but they need to rollout Lte soon or I’m changing carriers. Yesterday at my college I couldn’t even get a bar of service. The Internet simply refused to connect until I set the phone to roam. I’m in Philly for the day and I picked up 7mbps on the spotty 4g and 0.78mbps on 3g. Meanwhile AT&T is rolling out new lte networks and already has 2 lte phones in their lineup. I’m even contemplating a switch to t-mobile.

Wow. Sprint is putting out press releases that say: “Our 3G sucks less,” while VZW and AT&T are talking about their LTE roll-outs. Hmmm what could account for this so-called 3G improvement even being remotely considered newsworthy? Oh yeah, the freakin’ iPhone!

I’ve said it a thousand times and no one is willing to believe it, but its becoming more and more true: in order to attract iPhoners, Sprint is willing to throw away ALL the Android customers they’ve gained in the past few years. Every. Single. Freakin. One. As far as companies go, Sprint is one of the most short-sighted. We had a good ride with the EVO phones and the unlimited data, but the Android ship on Sprint is sinking fast. The iPhone won’t have 4G anytime soon, so Sprint’s 4G (LTE) plans are going to take a backseat to providing a rock-solid 3G network for these toy-phone twerps.

I was with AT&T when the iPhone first pooped out and they did a similar thing. In those days, of course, 3G was the new hot sh*t, so AT&T could at least pitch their over-hyped 3G upgrades as an improvement to the network. In Sprint’s case, December 2011 is the wrong time to put all your eggs in the 3G basket.

I live in Orlando FL and have no problems with 4G, no dropped calls etc. I also have a iphone 4 that is from work. It drops calls ALL the time and is for me a pain to use (I have an EVO and EVO 3D)so depending on your market etc take what we say here with a grain of skepticism…

So why put up a tower to support 3G and not 4G. All I can say is the first carrier to bring 4G to my area gets my support because I’m sick of paying sprints $10 a month for past year for 4G and can’t use it anywhere near me the way it is. So roll on sprint even if it is backwards.

The Nexus 4g is mighty tempting for $150 on Amazon. Their 3g network is the best out there and they don’t use carrier iq.

The $10 A month Premium data charge is for all smart phones not just 4G phones and it is a way to keep unlimited data and cover the expense caused by the amount of strain new and ever faster devices put on our network. So feel free switch carriers but be prepared to monitor your data usage or pay double what you do with sprint :)

I’ve seen a huge decrease in speed and network reliability since the release of the iphone on the network. I even have trouble getting calls out on the network. Happens often and have to retry until it gets through.

I gotta say that the 3G speeds have seemed to improve.
Getting over 1M on the Download.
In addition, the 4G speeds and consistency have also improved dramatically.
Getting 5-10Mb download speeds, with 10.2Mb just recently.
I had my SE4GT side by side with the Verizon Nexus Galaxy, and we were almost identical with speeds, LTE vs. 4G.
Gotta give credit where credit’s due, and Sprint appears to be Improving it’s Network, and that’s good to see!
