Dell Streak 5 will be able to send encrypted messages, surf a secure web
Do you remember that one Halloween day last year when it was announced that the Dell Streak 5 was certified by the Department of Defense for use by its personnel?
Well, I do, and now a new report elaborates on how the Streak 5 was able to be certified, and what partners Dell may have had to bring the idea to life. A software developer called Good Technology actually helped Dell to make ultra-secure apps for the pocket tablet, and the software is actually what gave personnel a chance to have one as their work phones.
Now that the DOD has had a chance to see the potential that Good Technology's . . . uh, technology, has for day-to-day operations, the latter company has been given the chance to work with other devices, and other manufacturers, to bring secure internet to a wide variety of new form factors and devices.
I know that all of you know the Streak 5 is a fantastic device, but it's so great to see that it actually turned a government agency's philosophy on smartphones completely around.

Of course the Good Technologies app will not work if the Streak is rooted.I actually have talked with a while back…
So does this mean that the Streak 5″ tablet is being produced exclusivley for the DOD? Or did they develop for a platform that is not being made anymore? I saw they said they were trying to bring their software to more devices.
Or are they creating a Streak 5 2nd Gen for the DOD? Wasn’t the story the other day about the new Mission Impossible movie using our device? Maybe it has a following in the DOD which is why we don’t see alot of these. Maybe they have there own community?
Its a fun thought though. Enjoy your Device while you still can, (before you upgrade to the Note etc…)
I still play with mine all the time. It is always with me and I panic(just a little) any time I can’t see it.

Dell Streak 5 is a great device very stable and reliable. I never experienced any problems on stock ROMs (Donut, Froyo). Dell should keep on supporting.
They likely have their own seperate contract with the DoD.
The current train of thought is that: dell and moto are the only US based companies that have android phones (even though the ODM that actually produces the streaks is taiwanese) and gives them (the DoD) greater control over it.
The DoD doesnt need the newest or fastest, an aging device with 2.2 = cheaper and more dev experience on it(?).
