Pushover allows you to send notifications to iOS and Android, now supports IFTTT.com

pushover m - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

A week ago I wrote about Notify My Android, an app that allows you to send notifications from outside sources to an Android device. Little did I know that there’s another such service out there, one that even supports iOS. It’s called pushover, and at first glance the two have a lot in common.

They both have APIs, app plugins, and email support for sending notifications to the device, though like I said, Pushover adds iOS compatibility to that. Pushover also now supports IFTTT.com, a service I ironically set up Notify My Android to work with when I got that. Notify My Android does win in one area, by having a Tasker component that allows you to trigger tasks based on NMA notifications.

It’s great to see some competition for an app type like this, as it means that both apps have reason to innovate. Despite the Tasker support in NMA, I’m leaning towards Pushover right now, as it seems a bit more polished. It doesn’t hurt that it’s on sale this week either, going for a single dollar in both app stores.
