Samsung quietly releases new Series 3 Chromebox with Intel Core i5

- for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

Without much ado for anything, Samsung has released a slightly revised Series 3 Chromebox with a beefier processor – the Intel Core i5, to be exact. Clocked at 1.9GHz, this new Chromebox comes with 16GB internal storage at 4GB RAM, and it looks exactly the same as its previous iteration. Really, the only thing new here is the processor, which shouldn’t be discounted as it’s really quite a big step up from the previous Celeron processor.

This new Chromebox looks like it’s replacing the original version, as most retail outlets are sold out of the older one. It’s going right now for about $400, depending on where you buy it (Amazon currently has it listed for $413.99, while CompSource is selling it for $405).

In my eyes, this is still a pretty steep price for any Chrome device, even with the newer processor. The other specs aren’t anything to write home about, and I think Google and Samsung should learn from their success with the Samsung Chromebook on ARM – people crave cheap computers.

What do you think? Would you buy this for yourself or for someone else?
