Help a unicorn to speak French

DU Translation pageHave you even wondered if there were a way you could give back to the development community that didn’t involve finances or huge time investments going through code? If you happen to speak another language fluently, there may be something you can do.

Currently Team D.I.R.T.s Dirty Unicorn ROM needs some help translating to other languages.

While Google’s translate is nice, too often you get a phrase that should read “press this button,” to “push the cow,” and that just doesn’t fly when you’re attempting to push a professional feeling ROM.

It should be noted that the Dirty Unicorns ROM is not the only one doing this type of translation. Several other ROMs need proper translating into other languages.

Team D.I.R.T, however, are the only people I’ve run across so far with links to a neat little web interface that lets you log in and translate various phrases to be voted on by other speakers of the language.

The current language list on the translation block includes Arabic, Chinese (simplified/traditional,) Dutch, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese/Brazilian, Romanian, Russian, Serbian (Cyrillic), Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, German, and Hungarian.

So if you have skills in translating to other languages and want to give back, Dirty Unicorns is looking for help. If you’re not a DU fan, you can still offer your services to a ROM developer if they need help in translating to another language.

If you want to help out with the DU translation, go to the link below, create an account or link one of your existing social media account, and then you can go through and pick out the language you want to help out with. You’ll be given a series of strings that need to be translated, and you can pick which ones you know and skip what you don’t know or see what’s already been done.

Or if your favorite ROM developer happens to need help, you can point them to how it is done here and let them set up a translation project for their ROM or application.

Remember, whatever you write has to be voted on to make it into the ROM. So if you’re putting a lot of garbage in to make a ROM look idiotic in another language, you’ll have to make it through voting by other speakers of the language to accomplish that.

If you’re a developer of another ROM in need of translation, drop me a line or post your link below.
