Roku removes YouTube TV from channel store

Don’t delete the YouTube TV app from your Roku because you won’t be able to get it back. Roku and Google are at odds over a distribution agreement for YouTube TV that has lead to Roku removing Google’s product from the channel store.

Google appears to be asking for more customer data and for Roku to adopt new hardware requirements perhaps for AV1 support (according to The Verge).

According to a blog post from Google they just wanted to renew the current terms which had been in place for several years, Roku tried to renegotiate with a deal that would encompass the YouTube app (non-tv) as well.

They also claim they’ve never made requests to access user data or interfere with search results…

Who knows… at the moment if you’ve got YouTube TV on your Roku do not delete it for any reason if you want it back.
