Dell Streak coming to US on July 14th, Gingerbread update by January 2011?

CalendarDon't consider anything official until Dell actually announces it, but word in the forum and my personal email is that the Streak will be released in the US on July 14th and that it will be on the receiving end of an update to Gingerbread (Android 3.0) by January 2011.

I mentioned the 14th as being somewhat suspect yesterday since it's the same day that the final survey will be sent to beta testers, but since then the date has been corroborated by another member in the forum and several people over email. This is still far from being official information, but it's difficult not to take notice when different people are repeating the same info they heard from different sources in different parts of the country. The funny thing is that I just heard from someone at Dell yesterday that the Streak would be released "late this summer," which made me think that meant August.

Although various Dell reps seem to be rather forthcoming with Streak info, the one thing that no one has been able to get any of them to confirm or deny is whether the device will really ship with Donut (Android 1.6) like its UK counterpart. Many prospective buyers are, of course, hoping for Froyo (Android 2.2) or Eclair (Android 2.1), even though Dell already said that a Froyo update would be available later this year. The US version I have is running 1.6, which would make any kind of software feedback provided by the beta testers rather useless if the device ended up being released with anything else.

Only time will tell!
